Audio Visual Technician Certification Study Groups
To participate in the advanced AV training, you must first have created LinkedIn Learning and AVIXA accounts through the IATSE Training Trust Fund.
For LinkedIn Learning, go to https://www.iatsetrainingtrust.org/lil and click on Download Application. Open the application as a .pdf in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Use the drop-down feature on Primary Job Classification and scroll down to Tradeshow-Other. Use the Fill & Sign tool to sign your application. Once the application is completed, email it as an attachment to lil@iatsetrainingtrust.org. After the IATSE Training Trust fund confirms you are working under our collective bargaining agreements, you will receive a link to set up your free LinkedIn Learning account. For AVIXA, go to https://www.iatsetrainingtrust.org/avixa and click on Register. Fill out the form and click submit. After the IATSE Training Trust fund confirms you are working under our collective bargaining agreements, you will receive a link to set up your free AVIXA account. Complete the Enroll form below and submit it. Once we receive 8 to 10 applications, we will organize study groups so you can go through the courses together. When there are 28 people who have completed the online training, the IATSE Training Trust Fund will schedule a four-day AV Essentials class in Orlando REQUIREMENT: You must be signed up with the Local 835 referral hall and working under a Local 835 contract to enroll in a training class. Computer Essentials Class
This two day course is designed to familiarize IATSE workers with basic computer usage. It will cover information that is necessary to perform tasks like logging on to the internet, creating and then using email accounts in a professional manner, downloading and using writing and editing software using different operating systems.
Attendees are required to provide their own device. There will be homework assignments that requires a free LinkedIn Learning account available through the IATSE Training Trust Fund. They are encouraged to set up the LinkedIn Learning account in advance, but help will be available during Day 1 of the class. You must complete the following survey prior to enrolling for the class. New Hire Orientation
Offered to only those who have completed an Application at the IATSE Local 835 Training office located at 7091 Grand National Drive, Suite 107 Orlando, FL 32819.
Interview Request forms are available on the Local 835 website http://www.iatse835.org/ Applications are only accepted certain times of the year, usually in the 4th Quarter. After submitting your online interview request via email, you will be scheduled by email to come into the Training and Application Office for a group interview. New applicants must have a valid photo ID, Social Security card and any required Work Authorizations when they arrive for the interview. After completing a Safety Certification/Training and the Orientation, you will be eligible to be referred to jobs on a show by show "call as needed" basis. The Journeyman training course is scheduled three times a year. It combines online classwork with web conferencing and hands-on activities. In addition to a 1,000 hours in the trade show industry, this is a required course for Journeyman status under the General Decorator Contract.

Scissor and Boom Lift Certification
An approximately four-hour class and hands-on training in the operation of boom lift, scissor lift and runabout. Certification is courtesy of Local 835’s instructors.

First Aid/CPR/AED Training and Certification
This one day course provides training in First Aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). The Red Cross certification is valid for three (3) years.
While the certification is available to all our referents, we especially encourage Stewards and Leads to enroll. REQUIREMENT: You must be signed up with the Local 835 referral hall and working under a Local 835 contract to enroll in a training class.
Helper Task Log Program
New Hires can pick up a Helper Task Log once they decide to enroll in the JCTC training program. Once the have been assigned to a department at job site, they should let their Lead know that they want to get their Log signed during the day.
Take photos to record the tasks that have been completed so that you have documentation in case you lose your Log. REQUIREMENT: You must be signed up with the Local 835 referral hall and working under a Local 835 contract to enroll in a training class. Helper Class
New Hires will attend a 2 day training which features basic trade show skills and terminology. They will participate in setting up a practice show. Starting with measuring out the show floor, they will lay carpet, deliver furniture and build exhibits.

Along with three good evaluations, this is a required course for Carpet Team Certification.

Certified fork lift operators can enroll in the Freight Trainee program. A Local 835, GES, Freeman, Expo Group or Sunbelt fork lift certification will be accepted. There are two classes that must be successfully completed. One is Freight Paperwork and the other is Fork Operation.
Once a Freight Trainee has been approved to operate on the show floor, they are paid the trainee rate until they have 300 freight hours. After 300 hours, they will receive the Journeyman pay rate. After 700 hours, they will receive Journeyman pay and benefits.
